ILOILO CITY (PIA) – The Barangay Information Officers (BIOs) from Passi City participated in an orientation and oath-taking on Wednesday, October 9.
The event was spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) – Iloilo Information Center in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Iloilo and the City Information Office (CIO).
The orientation highlighted the importance of timely and accurate information to be received by the communities and how to properly execute the process.
“This will help us provide timely, accurate, relevant and truthful information to the public. You are the representatives of the barangay as information officers, so we should give accurate information to the community. You are our extension and we work hand in hand to disseminate truthful information,” said CIO Head Mae Buenaflor.
Meanwhile, the newly elected officers of BION in Passi City took their oath before Vice Mayor Mayor Elyzer Chavez.
“This is the first time that they convened to form an organization like this. It is a great help for the community so that all the information can be channeled down to our constituents. This will also help in addressing wrong or fake information to circulate in the barangays,” Chavez said.
PIA-Iloilo Information Officer II, Liez’l Marie L. Ejeda, pointed out the importance of pooling a network of community-based information officers to amplify government projects, programs and services in a wide linkage of media platforms.
Connie S. Monguez from Barangay Punong and elected president of the Federated Barangay Information Officers of Passi City, expressed her gratitude for attending the orientation: “Thank you so much because we will be equipped with knowledge in proper information dissemination and this is very useful. We will cooperate with this for the greater heights of Passi City.”
Angie P. Gregas, the elected vice president, on the other hand, said that their positions allow them to acquire fundamental knowledge and skill to handle the rampant spread of fake news and to relay truthful information to the community.
The newly designated barangay information officers (BIOs), in general, pledged to strengthen the grassroots communication in their community. (PIA Iloilo)
