CALOOCAN (PIA) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that only 0.0013% breakthrough infection were reported out of 9.1 million fully vaccinated individuals against COVID-19.

FDA reported 116 cases of breakthrough infection with 88% mild or asymptomatic, 11% hospitalized, and 1% death as of August 1.

“Napakaliit na ng porsyento [ng nahahawaan] especially ngayon na every 100,000 Filipinos, meron 6-7 na tao ang nagkakaka-COVID araw-araw,” ,” FDA Director-General Eric Domingo said in a press briefing on Friday, August 13.

“Ang vaccine breakthrough infection ay kapag nagkaroon ka ng COVID-19 after 14 days of completion of two vaccine doses,” Domingo explained.

Meanwhile, the FDA emphasized that it is important to complete the recommended vaccine doses together with strict adherence to health protocols.

“Breakthrough infection cases can still occur in a small percentage of fully vaccinated individuals, but less severe,” Domingo said.

Domingo reminded the public that the maximum protection sets in two weeks after the second jab. (JMB/PIA-IDPD)
