DICT, MSU hold Start-up 101 workshop in Lanao del Sur

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The Department of Information and Communications Technology-Mindanao Cluster 3 (DICT MC3) in partnership with the Mindanao State University (MSU) held a Start-up 101 workshop to encourage students and professionals to establish a strong start-up ecosystem in their communities.

The activity is part of the Digital Startup Development and Acceleration Program (DSDAP) of DICT that aims to establish a strong Philippine Start-up Ecosystem by providing support that will enrich and strengthen the competitive advantage of Filipino start-ups.

ICT Industry Development Bureau focal person Albert Gabriel said the start-up aims to educate the students on what the start-up is all about. He said that the students' business ideas could be converted into a business model that they can monetize or use to open small businesses.

"This is an overview on giving them the idea on how to convert innovative ideas into a monetary setup business model," he said.

Gabriel also urged the participants to never stop thinking and put their innovative ideas into a business model. He said that a start-up community provides economic value to a certain city as it can attract investors or big companies that will be interested in the development of potential ideas.

The participants of the workshop were students and teachers in Lanao del Sur involved in information technology, marketing and engineering courses. Students from Cotabato City also joined the workshop online.

After undergoing workshops and mentoring sessions, the participants presented their start-up ideas in a pitching competition format. One team was chosen that will represent Lanao del Sur at the regional level. (LELA/ PIA Lanao del Sur)
