Santa Rosa City joins DOLE’s ‘One Million Jobs for 2021’

SANTA ROSA CITY, Laguna (PIA) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the city government of Santa Rosa now seek to vaccinate more individuals working in economic zones, as part of the government’s effort to give protection to the country’s key economic drivers from the severe symptoms of Covid-19.

On Thursday, November 18, the DOLE and the city government here rolled out an expanded vaccination program to workers from the construction and manufacturing industries, as they boost the ‘One Million Jobs for 2021’ partnership project of the government and the private sector.

The project seeks to help boost employment and economic recovery by vaccinating workers of sectors considered as top contributors to economic growth.

Mayor Arlene Arcillas and DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III led the vaccination rollout in the Nuvali site of the Makati Development Corporation (MDC), with more than 830 workers vaccinated with AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.

A collaboration among the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP), DOLE, and other stakeholders from both the government and private sectors, the project aims to inoculate one million workers from the construction and manufacturing industries.

The labor chief expressed optimism that the country’s economic rehabilitation has gone stronger following the easing of restrictions and reopening of the labor market.

“By helping them get the vaccines, our thrust for economic recovery could remain on track,” Bello said.

“With the lifting of harsh quarantine measures and the strategic implementation of the vaccination program, I’m confident that our country is healing fast,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bello called on all workers to get vaccinated as it is safe and helpful for the economy.

“Let’s all support the inoculation program of the government because it’s the surest way to fight the pandemic,” Bello added.

Arcillas welcomed the DOLE’s move saying that “the program will boost the health and economy not only in the City of Santa Rosa, but also in the province of Laguna and the whole Calabarzon.”
