Regional Director Joseph Francisco Ortega of DOT-Region I said the activity is geared towards safe and sustainable outdoor tourism as an engine to achieve inclusive growth and development amid the pandemic.

“Tourism is not just about travel but also for healing. It is for our mental health,” Ortega said during the activity held  in Barangay Inmalog Sur in San Fabian town where the Biker’s Den is located.

Ortega said alongside the establishment of the bike tourism trail is to test out the trails through biking tours and training of community bike tour guides to help those who lost their jobs because of the pandemic.

He went on to say that one of the most affected sectors by the global crisis brought by the corona virus is the tourism sector leaving 5.7 million Filipinos abruptly jobless.  Pinoys, however, were quick to bounce back because of being creative and ingenuous, he added.

Pangasinan Fourth District Representative Christopher De Venecia,  who was  instrumental in the establishment of the Biker’s Den  in 2019, said he was elated to know that new businesses have flourished in the mountainous area because of the structure which boasts of a unique architectural design.

“Masaya tayo na nakalikha ng livelihood at iba pang economic opportunities nang napagsama ang creative industries with tourism, sports and agriculture,” De Venecia said in an interview.

Meanwhile, Provincial Tourism Officer Malu Elduayan, who represented Gov. Amado Espino III, said  because of the world-class Bikers Den and the new bike trail,  bike tourism is so much alive in Pangasinan.
