SAN FABIAN, Pangasinan, Nov 23, (PIA) - - The Department of Tourism, in partnership with the provincial government of Pangasinan, launched the first half of the Bike Trail Tourism project that aims to attract more domestic tourists as well as promote physical and mental health of individuals.
Regional Director Joseph Francisco Ortega of DOT-Region I said the activity is geared towards safe and sustainable outdoor tourism as an engine to achieve inclusive growth and development amid the pandemic.
“Tourism is not just about travel but also for healing. It is for our mental health,” Ortega said during the activity held in Barangay Inmalog Sur in San Fabian town where the Biker’s Den is located.
Ortega said alongside the establishment of the bike tourism trail is to test out the trails through biking tours and training of community bike tour guides to help those who lost their jobs because of the pandemic.
He went on to say that one of the most affected sectors by the global crisis brought by the corona virus is the tourism sector leaving 5.7 million Filipinos abruptly jobless. Pinoys, however, were quick to bounce back because of being creative and ingenuous, he added.
Pangasinan Fourth District Representative Christopher De Venecia, who was instrumental in the establishment of the Biker’s Den in 2019, said he was elated to know that new businesses have flourished in the mountainous area because of the structure which boasts of a unique architectural design.
“Masaya tayo na nakalikha ng livelihood at iba pang economic opportunities nang napagsama ang creative industries with tourism, sports and agriculture,” De Venecia said in an interview.
Meanwhile, Provincial Tourism Officer Malu Elduayan, who represented Gov. Amado Espino III, said because of the world-class Bikers Den and the new bike trail, bike tourism is so much alive in Pangasinan.
San Fabian Mayor Constante Agbayani thanked DOT for the project, saying the den and improvements in the trails have brought brisk business to residents of the upland barangays.
The second half of the Bike Trail tourism project was launched inAgoo town in the province of La Union the next day as part of the Tourism Convention with the theme ‘Find the One in Region One.’ (JCR/VHS/PIA-Pangasinan)
