Abra eyes opening doors to tourists by Jan. 2021

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) - - The provincial government of Abra has already opened its tourist sites to locals and may soon welcome tourists from outside the province by January next year.

Gov. Joy Bernos bared this in an interview over the Nov. 22 Network Briefing News program with Bing Kimpo of the Presidential Communications Operations Office.

The governor issued Executive Order NOV- 01 series 2021which allows only local tourists who are fully vaccinated and 18 years old and below even if not fully vaccinated. However this is subject to consideration by the municipal local government units concerned.

Bernos said the province is blessed with   natural tourist spots such as waterfalls, camping sites and caves. It takes pride of the Kili Falls in Tubo, the Basakal Falls in Daguioman and the popular Kaparkan Falls in Tineg, which is best visited during the rainy season.

If one is into extreme sports adventure, Abra is the place to be, according to Bernos.  The province offers challenging hiking and motor bike trails.

The Governor informed that aside from the tourist sites, the   Abrenian culture and hospitality is more than enough that the province can offer.   One of the crowd-drawing event prior to the COVID-19 pandemic is the Abrenian Kawayan Festival showcasing the peoples culture and tradition, arts and crafts and food, among others.

Abra is known for its local sausage called longganisa and bagnet, a deep fried crispy pork belly dish. What makes its longganisa distinct from those produced in other areas is its garlicky taste with an adobo mixture while the bagnet they produce is more crunchy, Bernos said.

It also boasts of its pancit miki also called “comfort food” which is good for breakfast, snacks or for dinner.

Abra is under Alert Level 2  until November 30 and with the  downtrend of COVID-19   cases in the province , tourists outside the province   will be by January next year.(JDP/SCA-PIA-CAR, Abra)
