RAFEN-1 to showcase innovative new normal strategies

DAGUPAN CITY, Nov. 23 (PIA) -- The Regional Agriculture, Fisheries, and Extension Network (RAFEN) in Region 1 is set to conduct its 7th RAFEN 1 Symposium to showcase innovative new normal strategies of the extension service providers in addressing the effects of  the pandemic.

Rogelio Evangelista, center director of Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center 1 (ATI-RTC 1), said the symposium with the theme “FENDEMIC amidst the Pandemic” wherein FENDEMIC stands for Fortified Extension Network - Disruptive Events Made into Innovations and Collaborations will be conducted through an online platform on November 25-26.

“This year is supposed to be the eight symposium of RAFEN 1 but since the pandemic began in March last year, the network decided to put the symposium on halt but fortunately this year, we will now conduct the symposium virtually,” he told Philippine Information Agency in an interview.

About 200 stakeholders are expected to participate the learning session on the innovations and best practices of extension service providers amidst the present challenges in the agriculture and fisheries sector.

He said the symposium will highlight the reconfiguration of the Philippine Extension System under the Mandanas Doctrine, presentation and awarding of winners for the competition in best extension projects/practices through paper and poster presentation, and the recognition of outgoing RAFEN 1 focal person, secretariat, and member agencies assisting local government units (LGUs) with winning entries.

“The paper and oral competition will be divided into two categories - LGUs category and RAFEN 1 Member Agencies category while the poster competition will only be for LGUs ,” he said.

Further, he said winners for the paper and oral competition for both LGU and member agencies will received plaque and cash prizes amounting to P25,000 for the top first placer; P20,000 for the second; P15,000 for the third placer; and P5,000 each and certificates for the fourth to tenth placer.

Evangelista added that winners for the poster competition will also receive plaque and cash prizes amounting to P10,000 for the top first placer; P7,000 for the second; P5,000 for the third placer; and P3,500 each and certificates for the fourth to tenth place. (JCR/EMSA/PIA Pangasinan)
