QC Govt gears up for 3-day National Vaccination Day

CALOOCAN CITY, (PIA) -- The Quezon City Government is urging unvaccinated individuals to participate in the three-day national vaccination day from November 29 to December 1, as it targets to vaccinate around 150,000 individuals during the event.

The city government will prioritize all unvaccinated minors aged 12-17 years old and adults, as well as administer booster doses to members of the A1 (healthcare workers), A2 (senior citizens), and A3 (immunocompromised individuals).

Mayor Joy Belmonte expressed confidence that the city is more than ready for the event.

“It’s all systems go for Quezon City. We have tapped groups for additional medical workers and partnered with malls and establishments to have more sites. We want to maximize the three days allocated for this vaccination drive,” Mayor Belmonte said.

The city shall use its current supply of AstraZeneca vaccines that have been procured by the city in 2020. Out of the 1.1 million doses of AstraZeneca, around 229,000 doses have been received by the city in batches.

Good thing that we have procured this many vaccines for our QCitizens. While we wait for the supply provided for by the national government, we can use our own vaccines as booster shots,” Mayor Belmonte explained.

Special sites shall be put up in malls such as SM North Edsa Skydome, Eastwood City, Robinsons Magnolia, Waltermart North Edsa, SM Fairview, SM Novaliches, Fairview Terraces, Fisher Mall, and Crossroad Parkway Mall. Vaccination will also be done in SMART Araneta Coliseum and Elements at Centris.

Fast-food chain Mcdonald’s also provided several branches as sites for pediatric vaccination.

In addition, the Philippine Medical Association shall also vaccinate healthcare workers in its office auditorium. Meanwhile, the QC Police District and QC Bureau of Fire Protection shall also send additional medical workers to be assigned to different sites.

Medical teams from partners such as Tzu Chi Foundation, Healthway, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines and religious groups will also extend assistance.

Apart from administering first doses and booster shots, second doses of pediatric and adult populations shall proceed as scheduled in other vaccination sites.

Dr. Malou Eleria, QC Task Force Vax to Normal Coordinator, said that vaccinees can choose the brand they want but the city can only provide the type of vaccine available in the sites.

The best vaccine is still the one available. Since Quezon City’s COVID-19 situation is greatly improving, it is important to continuously decrease the infection through booster shots. Studies have proven that there is higher immunity against the virus once a person receives a booster shot,” Dr. Eleria explained.

QC Task Force Vax to Normal Adviser Joseph Juico encouraged all residents and non-residents of Quezon City to maximize the chance to get vaccinated in the city.

Everyone is welcome in QC. Whether you are a resident, a worker, a student or just a visitor in QC, you may register in our system and receive a vaccine dose comfortably and conveniently in QC,” Juico said.

Official schedule, vaccination sites, slots and other details has been posted in the Quezon City Government’s Facebook page and official website.

Meanwhile, the QC Government will be sending two teams to Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija to assist them in their implementation of the 3-day vaccination program. The teams shall be composed of doctors, nurses, and allied medical workers. (PIA-NCR)
