RIATF members undergo immersion at vax site in Pikit

PIKIT, North Cotabato (PIA) -- Members of the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease (RIATF EID) XII- Regional Task Force (RTF) Against COVID-19 visited the municipality Monday for an immersion program at the town’s vaccination sites signaling the kick-off of the three-day nationwide ‘Bayanihan Bakunahan’ campaign.

Cabrido-Leysa disclosed that five teams were deployed to monitor the vaccination activities in the entire region from November 29-December 1. One team each for the provinces of Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Cotabato, and Sarangani; and another team in General Santos City which is highly urbanized.

“For Cotabato Province kami po yung nakatoka. So ngayong araw nandito kami sa Pikit, bukas nandoon kami sa Carmen, and then sa third day nasa Aleosan.

She explained that one of the goals of the government in achieving herd immunity is for everyone to celebrate a safe and enjoyable Christmas with family contrary to last year, when movements were still very limited to accessing basic goods and services.

Pikit is one of the municipalities in the region with low vaccination turnout. Having a total population of 173,845 the local government needs to jab at least 121,692 individuals to achieve the 70% herd immunity.

Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Norhaysah S. Usop, in an interview with Philippine Information Agency, revealed that the LGU targets to inoculate 36,925 individuals for the 3-day national vaccination day (NVD) with 12,308 daily NVD target.

Usop, however, admitted that the target is a big challenge for them because of vaccine hesitancy and religious beliefs of other residents considering that the town has several barangays dominated by traditional Muslims and members of the Indigenous People.

To assist the LGU, Cabrido-Leysa said the RIATF will conduct a 'recoreda' to raise awareness on the dangers of the virus and the good effects of the vaccines, as well as inform the residents of Pikit that there is an ongoing inoculation in their area.

She added that the DILG along with other partner agencies also offered vehicles to transport the vaccinators and other volunteers to and from the vaccination sites in barangays where they will be deployed.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sumulong K. Sultan also turned over, on the same event, a brand new vehicle to the MHO to aid them in their day-to-day operations especially in their transporation needs during the three-day 'Bayanihan Bakunahan' campaign and for other scheduled inoculation activities.

He also expressd gratitude to the task force members for personally coming over to help check and assess what needs to be done to improve the vaccination coverage of the municipality.
