DA turns over P3M urban agri project to Quirino

CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA) - - The provincial government here in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) recently launched the Urban Agriculture Project and Community Garden worth P3,000,000 in support to the High Value Crops Development under the Plant, Plant, Plant Program.

Provincial Agriculturist Florence Mangoba said the project which was funded by DA in pursuant to the “Bayanihan to Recover as One Act” was turned over by Secretary William Dar to the provincial government of Quirino.

“This is a productivity/enhancement project which aims to produce year crops using resilient technologies/facilities. This includes greenhouses for assorted vegetable production, hydroponics, vertical farming for vegetable production and mushroom house for mushroom production,” Mangoba said.

Also, some 30 received supplies for community gardens in support to the urban agriculture project.

Dar who personally graced the project launching said the project is being implemented to further strengthen the agriculture sector in the region, advancing the welfare of the farmers through unity and creating programs for them.

The DA chief also said Quirino has been chosen to pilot PAFES in partnership with the national government through the DA.

“For the very purpose to really enhance further the Devolution Act,  many programs and projects were already transferred and some extension delivery services had been devolved to the different local government units in the municipal and provincial levels,” Dar said.

He further said under the Mandanas ruling, the department has already accelerated the Province-led Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Systems or PAFES.

“So there is what we call co-project development, co-investment,  co-monitoring evaluation of all projects, the Department of Agriculture will be always there in articulating and steering the national directions but doing the rowing based on this national directions will be the lead responsibility of the local government units,” Dar added.

Also present  during the launching and turnover of said project  were Undersecretary Zamzamin Ampatuan, Asst. Secretary Noel Reyes, HVCDP National Coordinator U-Nicholas Manalo, Regional Executive Director, Dr. Narciso Edillo, Regional Technical Director for Regulatory Rose Mary G. Aquino,  Regional Technical Director for Operations, Dr. Roberto Busania  and other national and local government officials who are in continuous support to the programs of the agriculture sector.
