Electric coops from Luzon arrive in S. Leyte to lend help

MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- The local power distribution utility Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (SOLECO) over the weekend welcomed its fellow “Warriors of Light” from Luzon, their presence widely seen as a big factor in restoring back to normal electricity around the province crippled by typhoon Odette.

“The true spirit of Bayanihan continues to transcend and be felt among electric cooperatives as more help not only from the region, but from all over the Philippines are coming in,” SOLECO posted in its FB page Sunday, January 30.

“We are welcoming our Task Force Kapatid from Luzon,” SOLECO said.

The five electric cooperatives who are here to lend a helping hand included those coming from Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan I, Pangasinan III, and central Pangasinan I.

As of January 28, 110 out of 500 barangays around the province have been energized, or 21.87% of SOLECO’s service area in terms of barangays covered.

In terms of household coverage, 36,016 households have been lighted out of 105,787, or 34.05% of the total, SOLECO said. (LDL/MMP/PIA8-Southern Leyte)
