DTI holds activities to empower women

VIRAC, Catanduanes (PIA) -- In celebration of the National Women's month, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted an orientation on its programs and services at TESDA Training Center, Cabugao, Bato on March 28, 2022.

The activity aims to advocate consumer awareness amongst women of various sectors and to orient them on the programs and services offered by DTI.

During the activity, Provincial Director Maria Belma Escueta held a lecture on the various programs of the department followed by discussion of different Fair trade laws by Consumer Protection Division Head Celeste B. Tribiana.

Another Consumer Advocacy seminar for all-women participants was also held at the TESDA Training center on March 24. Ms. Tribiana led the orientation on the Rights and Responsibilities of Consumers, Steps in Handling Consumer Complaints, Benefits and Privileges of PWDs and Fair Trade Laws.

According to her, the event aims to strengthen the initiative in empowering more women from different sectors through equipping them with the right knowledge as consumers.

Meanwhile, DTI also conducted radio programs under its Negosyo at Konsyumerismo with PD Escueta, Ms. Maria Irene Andes (OTOP and KMME Provincial Point Person) and special guest Ms. Mutya S. Sanchez, owner of Howling Tea Milktea Station.

PD Escueta shared the milestones of DTI Catanduanes in 2021 and its continuing activities. For the previous years, even at the peak of the pandemic, the agency’s programs and services continue to address various concerns of its clientele, from business to consumerism.

Ms. Andes, Provincial OTOP & KMME point person shared what the KMME program is all about, the topics covered by this program and the qualifications to become a mentee.

Ms. Mutya also shared her journey as an entrepreneur and how KMME helped her hone the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills. The story on how she started, how she coped despite the challenges and how she is sustaining her business aims to inspire other MSMEs who are facing different hurdles along their path. As a KMME graduate, she  was hailed as Regional Top 4 best performing mentee . She likewise encouraged her fellow business owners to dream big and match it with hardwork, resilience, determination and right mindset. (EAB-PIA5/Catanduanes)
