NCDA readies disability officers for transition

TUGUEGARAO CITY (PIA) – With the implementation of the mandanas ruling in the local government units, the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) plans to equip Persons with Disability Affairs Officers (PDAO) in order for them to be ready in their duties and functions.

NCDA's Executive Director Emerito Rojas, during the meeting of the Regional Council on Disability Affairs (RCDA) here, said the Persons with Disability (PWD) funds should be downloaded to the LGUs to be spent appropriately for the development and advancement of the PWD sector.

“This will be realized if our PWD officers are well trained. That is why we need to capacitate them,” Rojas said.

He said that the NCDA has been coordinating  with the Person with Disability Affairs Office Academy to provide the necessary knowledge and skills they need to man the offices and to have its equivalency program under the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

The Council, when its functions will be devolved under the LGU, is eyeing for one million disability data to be uploaded in the Disability Database in the Philippine Registry of PWD up to the end of 2022, and the continuation of capacity building for PDAO heads and focal persons on disability.

The NCDA also looks forward for the digitalization of all its information, education, and campaign materials for online education and training, and to assist in the health and education needs of PWD, as well as their employment and support to livelihood. (GVB/PIA Cagayan)
