Thousands of MisOr kids aged 5-11 get COVID shots

A total of 5,147 children received their COVID-19 shots as the Misamis Oriental Provincial Government and Provincial Health Office launched a two-day pediatric vaccination campaign for children aged 5 to 11 in the province's GALILEO and CLAJAVITA clusters. (GDAbang/PHO MisOr)

MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)– A total of 5,147 children aged 5-11 received their COVID-19 shots in a two-day vaccination drive in Misamis Oriental's ten towns and one component city.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) held a cluster vaccination drive, March 29 at the GALILEO cluster composed of Gitagum, Alubijid, Laguindingan, Initao, Libertad, El Salvador City, and Opol; and on March 30 at the CLAJAVITA cluster composed of Claveria, Jasaan, Villanueva, and Tagoloan, with a target population of 116,000 for the 5–11-year-old population set by the Department of Health (DOH).

The vaccination rollout was a success because the provincial government and PHO collaborated with the Department of Education (DepEd)–Misamis Oriental Division, DOH-10, RHUs, MHUs, and other agencies who shared Gov. Yevgeny 'Bambi' Emano's desire to expedite the immunization of children in the province.

While waiting for their turn to be vaccinated, the children were entertained with magic shows and mascots, and they were also given loot bags, ice cream, and food after receiving their shots.

Of the 5,147 vaccinees, 713 kids in Opol were vaccinated, El Salvador (326), Alubijid (307), Laguindingan (447), Gitagum (330), Liberta (235), Initao (916), Claveria (483), Jasaan (606), Villanueva (316), and Tagoloan (468).

This activity aims to achieve the DOH's recommended target population, protect Misamisnon children, and most importantly, prepare for the full adaptation of the scheduled face-to-face classes for children to be launched by DepEd in the province. (JAKA/PIA-10)
