Kayapa farmers join DA’s high value crops dev’t program

KAYAPA, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) - -  A farmer organization in this town recently joined the list of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) beneficiaries of their High Value  Crops Development Program (HVCDP).

Carol Albay, DA’s HVCDP regional coordinator said  the Acacia Highland Farmers Association (AFHA) was recently included in their HVCDP cluster after its members received a technical briefing on the program and its programs and assistance at the Nueva Vizcaya Experiment Station (NVES) in barangay Tapaya, Bagabag town.

“We provided them with technical assistance and distributed agricultural supplies such as 125 kgs of highland vegetable seeds and 2 units of multicultivators,” she said.

Albay said the DA plans to give more than 195 kgs. of highland vegetable seeds, 303 kgs. of organic fertilizer, 6 units of rainshelter, 762 pcs plastic crates, 3 units pump and engine set, 1 unit hauling truck and 1 unit greenhouse.

Albay said AFHA  has 92 members with 64. 6 hectares of upland vegetable farms located in barangay Acacia in this town.

The HVCDP aims to  address food security, poverty alleviation and sustainable economic growth.

It also empowers the high value crops producers through creation of alternative profitable business and livelihood opportunities, and aims to increase income to various smallholders and workers.

Albay said  there are five HVCDP clusters in the region namely: the Federation of Aritao Farmers of Onion Garlic Ginger Growers Association (FAFOGGGA), Flow of Pariir Agricultural Cooperative (FPAC), Kasibu Coffee Growers Association (KCGA), AFHA and the Itbayat Garlic Association (IGA).
