DepEd sets guidelines for physical graduation rites

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – To ensure learners, teachers, as well as parents are strictly following the minimum public health standards, the Department of Education (DepEd) has set guidelines for the conduct of in-person end-of-school-year (EOSY) rites.

In a memorandum issued on Tuesday, the department noted schools and Community Learning Centers (CLCs) may hold their rites for Kindergarten, Grades 6, 10, 12, and learners under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) from June 27 to July 2.

Thus, the DepEd emphasized only schools and CLCs under Alert Level 1 and 2 will be allowed to conduct a limited face-to-face graduation rites or a hybrid ceremony that involves live-streaming.

Schools and CLCs must also consult with the local government and parents regarding the conduct of graduation ceremonies and ensure that the protocols set by the IATF must be strictly observed and followed.

According to DepEd, they allowed the limited in-person graduation rites to give learners a sense of normalcy without risking their health and safety.

The DepEd said the following rules must be followed:

·        Face masks must be worn throughout the entire event;

·         A one-meter safe distance must be observed between individuals;

·        Participants must be seated at their assigned seats only;

·        Handshake or any other forms of physical contact is discouraged; and

·        Only the parents or one designated guardian shall be permitted to accompany a mover or candidate for graduation

The theme of SY 2021-2022's graduation rites is "Gradweyt ng K to 12: Masigasig sa mga Pangarap at Matatag sa mga Pagsubok," which emphasizes how Filipino learners remain resolute in their desire to build a better future anchored on a clear vision despite the risks and uncertainty brought by COVID-19 pandemic.
