Election is generally peaceful in Basilan says COMELEC

ISABELA CITY, Basilan, May 11(PIA) – The Commission on Election (COMELEC) in Basilan Province said on Tuesday (May 10)  that election here was generally peaceful and successful despite some incidents reported.

Atty. Vidzfar Julie, Provincial Election Supervisor said during the interview with the Philippine Information Agency that the election process in the entire province, which covers the 11 municipalities and 2 cities is smooth, orderly and peaceful.

“Actually the election we conducted in Basilan, except for two isolated incidents that took place in Tipo-tipo and Tabuanlasa, we can conclude that the election was orderly and generally peaceful,” Atty. Julie said.

He also mentioned that it is the first time that as early as May 10 most of the winning candidates in the municipal level were already proclaimed and the candidates already knew their votes and they knew their status in the election.

Atty. Julie also explained about the incident of ballot snatching in Tipo-tipo, which he said, will cause possible failure of election.

“With respect to the ballot-snatching in Barangay Tipo-tipo Proper, before the incident happened there was already process of voting. So people are already casting their vote and when that incident happen, it was temporarily stopped but when the situation was already settled the voting process have continued,” he explained.

Atty. Julie, further, stressed that there is no failure of election in Basilan. (RVC/NDR/PIA9-Basilan)
