PRRD:Uphold your PMA oath, be leaders of positive change

FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City (PIA) - - President Rodrigo Roa Duterte  inspired members of the Philippine Military Academy “BAGSIK DIWA”   Class of 2022  to remain true to their oath, continue the fight against the ills of society and be the leaders who  are responsive to  new challenges  brought about  by the changing times.

During the commencement rites on Sunday (May 15), Duterte called on the 214 newly commissioned officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to continue the fight against the ills of society that continue to hound  the country.

“My public life as President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines comes to an end. In contrast, your responsibility to uphold, protect and secure people’s lives and properties officially starts today.”

“Only the courageous, fearless, competitive and disciplined and the best pass through this hallowed ground of PMA. The fact that you march here today at this historic and mystical ground is a testament that you are the best that the youth of the land can offer”.

In every country’s history, every generation has a role to play and a mission to fulfill. To the members of the BAGSIK DIWA class, we await your response, the President  said.

As new soldiers of the country, he  also called on them to become flexible and responsive leaders.

“Today the man in uniform must be many things at the same time if he is to be relevant to the changing times. He must be both a warrior and a peace maker, an arms bearer and a pencil pusher, skilled in the art of war and adept as a life saver, an offensive machine and a fierce defender, a soldier and a civil servant”, the President said.

Meanwhile, PMA Superintendent LtGen Ferdinand Cartujano   reminded the PMA graduates to uphold the Academy’s motto of courage, integrity and loyalty. He assured that Fort Del Pilar is always open to welcome them to visit anytime.

“This commencement exercise signifies the end of cadetship and the start of a new beginning in the military service. A new chapter of your life, it opens up to a fresh endeavor, with the opportunity in a heightened purpose that is to give the selfless service to God, country and the Filipino people”.

“To the graduating cadets I wish you all good luck to your military journey. Continue to strive for the best and be good ambassador of passionate and dedicated service to the nation with courage integrity and loyalty”, Carutjano stressed.
