BAGUIO CITY (PIA) - - The Bureau of Internal Revenue – Cordillera Administrative Region has surpassed its revenue collection goal for 2021 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2021 revenue collection reached P5, 999,974,326.42, surpassing the target of around P5.53 billion by over P470.30 million, which is almost 10 percent of the annual goal for the year. This is also higher by 16.33 percent or by around P797.62 million compared to 2020 revenue collection.
Income tax with almost P3.7B topped the 2021 revenue collections, followed by Value Added Tax with around P1.48B, Percentage tax at almost P376.05 million, other taxes at around P435.84M and excise tax at P11.03M.
Baguio City Revenue District collected the bulk with almost P2.94M or 48.93% of total revenue collection in the Cordillera region in 2021.
“For the collection performance of BIR-Cordillera, I am very proud to announce that BIR-CAR is obe of the Top 10 nationwide in achieving or collection target, ” BIR – CAR Regional Director Douglas Rufino said during Kapihan media forum here in May 18.
Rufino also reported that for this year, the BIR – CAR is on track of achieving its P7.1 billion goal with revenue collection from January to April already reaching almost P2.39B.
The COVID – 19 pandemic surely affected some businesses with some shutting down but there were also new businesses that were established during the pandemic. With the lowering of restriction and full opening of local travels like here in Baguio City, businesses especially in the tourism industry such as hotel and food enterprises are already on the road to recovery, he noted.
He reiterated the importance of tax compliance as he also called on online sellers to register their business.
“Paying taxes promptly and correctly is the highest form of patriotism in this trying time”, Rufino said.
Also in the the forum were Assistant Regional Director Lorna Binarao, Baguio City Revenue District Officer Wilfredo Reyes and division heads of BIR - CAR Finance, Administrative and Human Resource Management, Collection, Assessment, Revenue Investigation and Legal who provided specific reports and answer media concerns related to their respective offices.
