ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The nearly 5,000 "Spearhead" troopers of the Philippine Army are now back to their respective camps and patrol bases after rendering duty during the recently-concluded polls.
Capt. Kim Apitong, the Army's 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division Spokesperson, said that their Army personnel returned "safely" after serving and securing the area of Western and Central Visayas during the May 9 national and local elections.
He said that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has deployed a total of 4,840 Army personnel, including Citizens Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGUs), to support other security forces, like the Philippine National Police (PNP), in securing the electoral process in Regions 6 and 7.
"Aside from providing security, the AFP also provided aerial transport and retrieval of Voting Counting Machines (VCMs), and Commission on Elections (COMELEC) officers to remote areas in its area of jurisdiction. This contributed to the efficient preparation and conduct of NLE in Panay and Negros," Apitong said.
Meanwhile, 3ID Commander Major General Benedict Arevalo lauded the troops for their commitment in securing the recent May 9 elections.
"We would like to commend, not only the 3ID troops but also other security forces who contributed to the success of the election in this part of the country. Our collaboration does not end here as this will transcend in our campaign against insurgency in Western and Central Visayas," Arevalo said. (JBG-PIA6/Story and photos from 3ID-PAO)
