‘City of love’ commemorates I-Day

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Iloilo City government led by Mayor Jerry Treñas paid tribute to the celebration of the 124th year of Philippine Independence, June 12, at Plaza Libertad, here.

The commemoration began with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by wreath-laying at the Rizal Monument and a 21-gun salute by the personnel of the Iloilo City Police Office.

During the program, Treñas encouraged fellow Ilonggos to carry on the struggles as a way to pay tribute to heroes who sacrificed for the genuine democracy of the country.

“As we celebrate the 124th Philippine Independence, may we always be reminded to make the sacrifices of our heroes worthy by emulating their courage and perseverance to never allow the unjust or cruel exercise of authority or power or any form of oppression to take place,” the city mayor said.

Treñas also called on the public to contribute to preserving freedom and be modern heroes through their simple means.
