Kasambahay’s new monthly minimum wage set at P4,500


DAVAO CITY (PIA) – The new monthly minimum wage for domestic workers or “kasambahay” is now set at Php4,500, bared Regional Director Atty. Randolf C. Pensoy of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-XI).

Under the Wage Order No. RB XI-DW-02, the new rate will take effect on June 20, 2022, Pensoy said during Wednesday’s (June 15, 2022) media forum at Habi at Kape in Abreeza Mall, Davao City.

Upon the effectiveness of this Wage Order, the new monthly minimum wage for the domestic workers, either in chartered cities and first-class municipalities or from other municipalities must have a minimum wage of Php4,500.00.

This Wage Order covers all domestic workers, whether on live-in or live-out arrangements such as but not limited to general house help, yaya, cook, gardener, laundry person, and any person who regularly performs domestic work in one household on an occupational basis.

It is also clarified that service providers, family drivers, children under the foster family arrangement and any other person who performs work occasionally or sporadically and not on occupational basis are not covered.

Pensoy said that any employer found to be violating the wage order, will be penalized.

Republic Act No. 10361 or An Act Instituting Policies for the Protection and Welfare of Domestic Workers and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, states that any violation shall become actionable by the aggrieved party. (PIA-XI/CLC/Zerah Come)
