SK Sta Catalina, DA distribute native chicks to out-of-school youth, tanods

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - A total of 21 out-of-school youth including three tanods in barangay Sta. Catalina in this city received upgraded chicks from the Department of Agriculture (DA) through the initiative of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Council here.

SK Chairperson Melvin Adorable prepares the upgraded chicks before he distributes them to the beneficiaries.

SK Chairperson Melvin Adorable said the first batch of the beneficiaries of the Project "AGRI-SK" or "AGRIKULTURANG SERBISYONG pangKABATAAN" received a total of 120 chicks, each receiving four to five.

Adorable expressed his gratitude to Dr. Junel B. Soriano of DA for granting his request which, according to him, is of big help for his fellow youth as these chicks will provide additional income for them once they lay eggs and eventually grow bigger.

He added that the said project aims to give opportunity for the youth to venture into the field of agriculture as he observed nowadays that the number of youth engaging in agriculture is low.

Adorable further urged the first batch of recipients to take care of the chicks and grow them properly so that they can also share their chicks later on with the next batch of beneficiaries. (MDCT/PIA Cagayan)
