ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) -- An inaugural flight of AirAsia Philippines from Manila via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to the city was successfully launched, June 16, as the airline's 16th domestic destination.
AirAsia chief executive officer Ricky Isla, during a short program at the Roxas City Airport, said that world’s best low-cost airline wanted to make sure that it will be strongly felt in Roxas City and the province to further stir economic and tourism activities.
"We are not just here to bring assengers, travelers and tourists. We are here to bring economy and business," Isla stressed, adding that AirAsia, as a start, has already booked 2,000 passengers inbound to the city.
A water cannon salute was given by some Aerodrome Rescue Firefighters of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) upon the arrival of the airline’s airbus at the airport.
The flight schedules of AirAsia to Roxas City will be every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday leaving Manila at 7:15am. It will fly back to Manila at 9:10am.
The program was graced by Capiz Governor Esteban Evan Contreras, Roxas City councilor lawyer Ivan Paul Baticados who represented Roxas City mayor Ronnie Dadivas, Department of Tourism – 6 director Cristine Mansinares, Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office head Alphonsus Tesoro, local business leaders, mediamen and AirAsia Philippines executives, among others.
