DTI promotes cacao industry of Echague, Jones

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - To promote the cacao industry in the province, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Isabela toured some cacao bean buyers in the towns of Jones and Echague, the cacao producing towns of this province.

DTI Isabela Trade and Industry Development Specialist and Cacao Focal Person Mary Dumpit brought the institutional buyers to the cacao farms to determine and verify the variety and quality of the cacao beans produced by local cacao farmers.

Dumpit said majority of the varieties produced in Jones and Echague are the Trinitario leaning to criollo variety, which has a creamy-fruity flavor, and the Trinitario leaning to Forastero-like kind with highly fragrant and slightly bitter sweet taste when turned into chocolate.

She said the institutional buyers present during the cacao farm tour assured that they will return in the said towns to buy their cacao harvests which are raw materials in food business.

Dumpit said the cacao farm tour aims to connect Isabela cacao farmers and producers with possible institutional buyers to boost cacao marketing in Isabela. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
