Army, DTI hold entrepreneurship seminar, skills training to NPA-cleared barangay

VIGAN CITY, June 27 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Ilocos Sur, through its “Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa Program” in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Nagbukel, Ilocos Sur and the 71st Infantry (Kaibigan) Battalion, 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army provided an Entrepreneurship Seminar on Mushroom Production cum Basic Skills Training on Mushroom Processing to a former conflict-affected barangay in Nagbukel town. 


Twenty residents of Barangay Bandril in Nagbukel received the seminar and training held to enhance their skills and generate an additional revenue stream through technology transfer training from June 18 to 19, 2022.

The participants were trained in making pickled mushroom, chicharon mushroom, embutido mushroom and mushroom balls on the first day.


“Lubos kaming nagpapasalamat na naisagawang seminar training at caravan ng DTI at Philippine Army. Ipapangako po naming ipapaunlad ang aming kakayahan pati ang naipagkaloob sa amin na pangkabuhayan,”  Mario Agkayab, one of the beneficiaries, said. 


On the second day, the participants resumed the mushroom processing and then proceeded to basic skills training on mushroom production.

They were also taught how to make fruiting jars out of rice hays, and the basic procedure of producing oyster mushrooms.


Furthermore, the DTI brought the Diskwento Caravan to the said barangay as well as the neighboring barangays in the agency’s aim to enhance the access of consumers to more affordable, low-priced basic necessities and prime commodities.

The activity was conducted through the concerted efforts of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) of the Provincial Task Force in Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) of Ilocos Sur.


DTI’s Assistant Regional Director and Provincial Director of DTI-Ilocos Sur Grace R. Lapastora said, “We are grateful to the thrusts of the PFT-ELCAC because our agency can now extend its programs and projects even to the ELCAC-cleared communities, especially in the far-flung barangays in the province.”


 During the seminar-training, she discussed basic entrepreneurship focused on the production, pricing, and marketing of the mushroom produce.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Michael B.
