2.1M new voters registered so far -Comelec

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced that their target number for new registered voters has been exceeded.

According to Atty. John Rex Laudiangco, the number of newly registered voters reached over two million so far, as of July 20.

"As of July 20, this is our 15th day of registration, we have exceeded our projected target, our registered new voters have reached 2,119,878," said Laudiangco in the public briefing.

"At first, we only expected based on historical records to reach approximately one million new registrants, we have exceeded that," he added.

Laudiangco said that of this number, a total of 1,325,415 are between the ages of 15 to 17 while 680,497 are 18 to 30-years-old.

A total of 112,966 are 31-years-old and above.

Voter registration closed on Saturday, July 23. (PIA-NCR)
