Ilocos Sur joins PinasLakas booster campaign

VIGAN CITY, July 28 (PIA) – The province of Ilocos Sur joined the PinasLakas booster campaign against Covid-19 through a roll-out ceremony held on Tuesday morning at the Provincial Farmers Livelihood Development Center in this city.


Some senior citizens, and employees of the national government agencies and Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur (PGIS) received their booster shots against Covid-19 during the launching.


Mary Grace Rabe, employee at the Provincial Administrator’s Office and a recipient of the booster dose, said “Nagpabakuna ako para may proteksyon ako sa pagpasok sa trabaho kung saan marami akong nakakasalamuha na tao, at para na rin protektado ang pamilya ko.” 


The said campaign was launched by the Department of Health (DOH)-Ilocos Sur in partnership with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur and the Provincial Health Office (PHO) to implement the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on Covid-19 vaccination and strategies for his first 100 days in the office.


Vice Governor Ryan Luis Singson, Provincial Administrator Marlon Tagorda, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Trina Tabboga-Talaga, DOH-Ilocos Sur head Engineer John Foz, and Board Member Ericson Singson attended the activity.

The vice governor said, “Importante la unay apo nga itultuloy tayo daytoy panagbakuna tayo ta makita met nga effective.” (It is really important that we continue the vaccination since we can see that it is effective.)


He also assured the public that they can expect the continuation of the progress in the health system of the province so that more Ilocos Surians are healthy and well.


Meanwhile, Dr. Talaga said, “Ang booster dose ay proteksyon ng mamamayan kontra sa sakit. The fact na tayo po ay magpapa-booster shows our courage, our intention, our participation in the protection of everyone."


During the press conference conducted after the ceremony, Dr. Talaga mentioned that the province is still considered endemic or in a state where there are few to none critical and severe cases of Covid-19 despite the current surge of cases.


Board Member Singson added, “We can pass a resolution to encourage the rest of the local government units in the province to reach the target. Very important din iyong pagdala ng bakuna sa barangay at tinutuloy naman iyon.”


Moreover, the Ilocos Sur PHO also offered medical services such as free blood pressure test and fasting/random blood sugar screening while the vaccinees await their turn to receive their shots. (JCR/AMB/ATV, PIA Ilocos Sur)
