DOH-8 launches 'PinasLakas' vax drive in Catbalogan City

CATBALOGAN CITY -- The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas (DOH-8), together with the Provincial Government of Samar and other stakeholders has recently  joined the nationwide launching of the PinasLakas vaccination drive in Catbalogan City, Samar.

The vaccination campaign with the tagline, “Sa Booster, PinasLakas,” does not only encourage individuals to receive their COVID-19 primary series vaccines (first and second doses) but also the two booster doses.

Some 14 individuals from different pediatric, adolescent, senior citizens, and adult category received their additional COVID-19 vaccine during the said launch.

In her message, Dr. Exuperia Sabalberino, DOH-8 regional director, shared that the department was mandated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to increase the vaccination coverage in the country.

“We have received a mandate from PBBM, we are encouraged to vaccinate 90% of our senior citizens, and 50% of our general population in the First 100 Days of the president,” Dr. Sabalberino said.

The director also gave emphasis that the government focuses on the senior citizens age group as they are the most vulnerable sector in the community.

She likewise stressed that the vaccines are safe and effective, and prevents the severe complications brought by the virus.

Samar Vice Governor Arnold Tan likewise encouraged everyone to take advantage of the free vaccines and said that nobody wants to go through the same hardships that everyone experienced at the height of the pandemic.

Based on the July 26 COVID-19 Case Bulletin released by DOH-8, the vaccination rate of the region is at 81%, while that of the A2 Priority Group or senior citizens is at 69.4%.

Meanwhile, the vaccination rate of Samar Province is at 71.4%, while that of the senior citizens is at 59.4%. (LDL/GMT/PIA Samar)
