SSS intensifies campaign vs. contribution evaders in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) -- The Social Security System (SSS) in Eastern Visayas has intensified its campaign against delinquent establishments in targeted local government units in the region as it conducted its second leg of RACE (Run After Contribution Evaders) operations on July 25 to August 1.

Mario V. Corro, SSS vice president for Visayas Central 2 Division, together with SSS Tacloban Branch Head Dr. Lilibeth Cajucom and other employees, visited a total of 34 delinquent employers during the six-day campaign particularly in Sogod, Southern Leyte; Naval, Biliran; Hilongos, Ormoc City, Baybay City, Tacloban City, and Palo, all in Leyte.

During the visit, the employers were reminded of their responsibility and obligation to pay contributions under the Social Security Law, Corro said.

The delinquent employers were served notices by the SSS officials to settle their SSS obligations within 15 days from receipt of the order.

“Kasi order ito, they have to comply within 15 days, kung they are unable to comply then the next level, the next step would be legal action,” Corro added.

Corro did not identify the names of the delinquent employers to protect their reputation.

Under Republic Act 11199 otherwise known as the Social Security Act of 2018, whoever fails or refuses to comply with the provisions of this Act shall be punished by a fine of not less than P5,000 nor more than P20,000, or imprisonment for not less than six (6) years and one (1) day nor more than 12 years.

In April 2022, SSS conducted the first leg of RACE operations in the cities of Maasin in Southern Leyte and in Catbalogan and Calbayog, in Samar. (MMP/CBA/PIA-8)
