VIGAN CITY, Aug. 2 (PIA) - - The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Ilocos Sur is providing relief efforts in areas affected by the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Northwestern Luzon on July 27.
Personnel of the TESDA provincial office, led by Provincial Director Joel Pilotin, provided food packs to six families in Santo Domingo town whose homes were damaged by the earthquake.
Through its banner program, the “TESDAmayan,” said families in barangays Nagbettedan, Lagatit, Calautit, and Nambaran received rice, canned goods, noodles and other food items.
The recipients were those whose homes were severely damaged, likewise, those who sustained wounds after they were hit by sharp objects during the quake.
The assistance was provided because of the consolidated effort and support of the Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs) in the province, and in coordination with the local government unit of Santo Domingo.
TESDA Ilocos Sur employees were also joined by the staff of the Municipal Social Welfare Development Office who distributed relief goods to the identified beneficiaries. Likewise, the Municipal Engineering Office and the Bureau of Fire Protection inspected the damaged infrastructures such as houses, roads, and fences, among others, in the area.
"We were saddened by the effects of the earthquake on our constituents. We hope that they will all recover from this devastating calamity the soonest. We, the TESDA, the Ilocos Sur Association of TVIs, in coordination with LGU-Santo Domingo provided food packs to some victims because we believe that they need it at the moment. We thank our partners for heeding to the call of TESDA to help the needy under its TESDAmayan program. Stay safe and God bless us all," Director Pilotin said.
He assured that another relief operation will be conducted especially to the upland municipalities whose residents are severely affected by the earthquake.
“TESDAmayan” is the agency’s program that aims to provide assistance to communities affected by any crisis caused by natural calamities, and/or any other untoward incidents that affect residents resulting in displacement. (JCR/JPD/JMCQ, PIA Ilocos Sur)
