BAGUIO CITY (PIA) -– Five Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) teams in the Cordillera region gathered for a three-day writeshop to collate data and information on the damages of the July 27 magnitude Northwestern Luzon Earthquake with epicenter in Tayum, Abra.
Four PDNA teams were deployed in the various municipalities of Abra while one team to Mountain Province to gather data during the last week of August.
Said writeshop was hosted by Office of the Civil Defense- Cordillera led by Regional Director Albert Mogol as the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Chairperson, and National Economic and Development Authority-Cordillera (NEDA-CAR) Regional Director Susan A. Sumbileng as the RDRRMC Vice-Chairperson on Rehabilitation and Recovery.
Sumbeling explained that the PDNA writeshop will serve as a primary input to identify essential recovery programs of the government for the different sectors affected
It will determine how much the region needs for recovery through the use of technical means of data collection and assessment, according to Mogol.
He assured that the findings of the writeshop will be submitted to the RDRRMC and the National DRRMC for the appropriation of rehabilitation programs from the national government.
“We need the vigorous and sole support of everyone for a whole-society approach for the Cordillera Region to quickly recover from the effects of the magnitude 7 earthquake,” Sumbeling stated.
The PDNA is an internationally accepted methodology for determining the physical damages, economic losses, and costs of meeting recovery needs after a disaster through a government-led process.
Meanwhile, Mogol recognized the different government agencies and local government units in their cooperation and support to the council’s response operations before, during and after the quake.
“Aking pinapasalamatan ang mga ahensya sa walang tigil ninyong suporta sa RDRRMC upang tulongan ang mga kababayan nating naapektuhan ng lindol,” he stressed. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
