Bontoc celebrates 114th founding anniversary

BONTOC, Mountain Province(PIA)-- With the theme “Bontoc at 114: Dynamic and Proactive towards Recovery and Prosperity, ” people of this capital town  gathered last  September 16  at the municipal grounds   to celebrate its 114th Founding Anniversary and 18th Am-among Festival.

Residents  of  the different  barangays , workers  of  national line agencies including schools and non-government organizations  participated in the activities  that included  civic parade, thanksgiving mass,  program, indigenous games and concert, among others.

Mayor Jerome Tudlong Jr said the event   is a reminder that things are finally going back to normal, helping in the mental health of the people. He cited the Ifontoks’ strong sense of community, love for work, and ability to adapt to challenges passed on from their forefathers as indispensable traits that made them rise from challenges.

Soraya T. Faculo, the OIC Schools Division Superintendent of Ifugao, who served as the guest of honor and speaker, emphasized that the call for prosperity is not only a responsibility of the officials, but all the community members.

Faculo shared the four behaviors reflective of dynamism and being proactive for the community to recover from the pandemic and be progressive. People should initiate rather than maintain the status quo, engaging rather than grandstanding, building rather than isolating, and communicating rather than disconnecting.

Mountain Province Congressman Maximo B. Dalog Jr. also encouraged everyone that amid the difficulties, be resilient,   strive to stand up and overcome these challenges.

The anniversary celebration also featured a week-long Agri-Trade Fair, and PRC Mobile Outreach and NBI on Wheels Sept. 15. (JDP/CT-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
