LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) - - Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - developed technologies, assisted research and development (R&D) projects as well as assisted products of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the different provinces of the Cordillera are featured in the regional celebration of the 2022 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) at the Benguet State University closed gym here from September 20-22.
DOST – CAR headed by Regional Director Nancy Bantog led the opening of the NSTW with the theme, “Agham at Teknolohiya Kabalikat sa Maunlad at Matatag na Kinabukasan” in cognizance of the importance of science and technology in achieving national development and progress for the Filipino people as embodied in the Philippine Constitution.
The event opened in Sept. 20 with around 20 exhibitors of technologies, products, R & D projects that are assisted by DOST.
The opening day also featured learning session on the Cordillera experience of the July 27 Magnitude 7.0 Northwestern Luzon earthquake and other possible earthquake scenarios in the region. This is in partnership with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology and the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Highlight of the second day is the Cordillera Weaving Industry with a virtual regional summit in the morning and a fashion show in the afternoon.
The regional S&T Week also includes information and learning sessions via a series of virtual or online webinars.
Another highlight of the event is the recognition of valuable and S&T advocacy partners and the best implementers of DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) and the Community Enhancement through Science and Technology (CEST) program.
Bantog, in welcoming all the guests, exhibitors, other partners and stakeholders at the 2022 NSTW in CAR, calls for a continuing partnership in bringing science, technology and innovation closer to the people and become a driver of community development and progress especially in the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
“Through Science, technology and Innovation, we can make more direct impact on improving the lives of Filipinos”, Bantog stressed.
DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr., in his keynote message read by Bantog, assured the continuing commitment of the Department in bringing science, technology and innovation as a driver of community development and inclusive growth for the Filipino people.
“The application of science and technology in our endeavors can bring about much – needed sustainable development that can push for the improvement of the lives of the people in our country,” Solidum stated. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
