BFAR continues to aid fisherfolks in Region 1

SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Ilocos continues to distribute fuel subsidies among fisherfolks in the region to cushion the impact of the series of oil price hikes experienced during the previous months.

Remely Lachica, chief of the Fisheries Production and Support Services Division, said the distribution of the P3,000 worth of fuel discount cards is 61 percent completed in the region, as of mid of September.

“A total of 3,699 fisherfolks had already received the discount cards out of the 6,097 identified beneficiaries,” Lachica said.

She added, “At tuluy-tuloy pa rin ang validation on our level, aside from the process conducted by the local government units.”

Also, Lachica cited that distribution may take some time to be fully completed as challenges were being experienced causing the delay in the disbursement like the use of different identification cards of recipients upon claiming the discount vouchers versus the one they used during their application.

“Medyo naantala ang pamamahagi ng cards dahil kailangan nilang sumailalim sa data clearing and validation kaya naman pinapayuhan natin ang mga benepisyaryo na gumamit ng kaparehang ID,” Lachica explained.

Most of the target beneficiaries are from Pangasinan with some 2,168 fisherfolks; La Union with 1,067; Ilocos Sur with 1,028; and some 934 recipients in Ilocos Norte.

Meanwhile, the BFAR in Ilocos reiterated that to avail the fuel subsidy and other programs or assistance from the agency, they must be enlisted under the fisherfolk registration system or the FishR. (JCR/AMB/CGRC, PIA Region 1)
