First OTOP kiosk in Batanes opens in Sabtang

SABTANG, Batanes (PIA) - - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Batanes recently launched its first One Town One Product (OTOP ) Buy Local Kiosk in the province at the Pasalubong Center in Sabtang town. 

The OTOP Kiosk is a mini version of the OTOP Hub which features different kinds of merchandise. 

It also serves as a physical retail outlet for local products that are available within the municipality of Sabtang and in the province.

Batanes Provincial Information Officer Shane Karenza Alexia B. Horlina said the OTOP Kiosk is a sub-component of DTI’s One Town One Product that provides a marketing avenue for local MSMEs to display, showcase and sell their locally made products  such as garlic, turmeric (powder, capsule and tea), “wakay” or sweet potato (lengua, chips, and hopia) roasted peanuts, taro chips, sugar cane, wine, vinegar as well as other various handicrafts like hats, fans, pouches, purses, bags, mats, ladle and others.

It also features sabtang-made farming gears such as “vakul”, “kanayi”and “tubho”.

She also mentioned that it is expected that the OTOP kiosk launching in the municipality of Sabtang will not only showcase proudly Sabtang-made products but also other OTOP from other municipalites in the province.

During the launching, Sabtang Mayor Prescila A. Babalo who served as a guest of honor during the launching  expressed her support and appreciation to DTI’s programs and efforts in helping local MSMEs promote their products.

She also urged the MSMEs present during the opening to be more innovative not just in business but in every aspect of their lives as they face new challenges and to be  proud of their own place, products and culture as they reflect who they are.

DTI R2 Batanes OIC Provincial Director Ellerie Ramel, on her part, shared plans to further enhance the OTOP Kiosk and expand it into a full blown OTOP Hub Pasalubong center in collaboration with the Municipal Government and the Tourism Office. She also asked the MSMEs present to start processing and producing more innovative and competitive products that can compete in the market before the full opening of the province to tourists.
