Tourism Job Fair opens in Abreeza

DAVAO CITY - The Turismo, Trabaho Asenso Philippine Tourism Job Fair opened today (Sept. 12) at the Atrium of Abreeza Mall in Davao City.

The nationwide job fair for the tourism industry was simultaneously held in Manila (Sept. 22-24) and Cebu (Sept. 22-23). The Davao job fair will run until tomorrow (Sept. 23).

An estimated 2,576 jobs are being offered by 42 participating companies belonging to the primary tourism establishments and allied industries.

“We are positive that through this job fair more people especially our job seekers can learn more about the different employment opportunities and career paths within the industry,” said Department of Tourism-11 Regional Director Tanya Rabat Tan.

The steady opening of various destinations in the country have rejuvenated the tourism industry and with the industry’s increasing activities there is a need for more human resource to man the various establishments.

“As our tourism industry was hit by the pandemic and many of the tourism frontliners transferred to the other industries we were informed that many of our tourism related establishments are still undermanned,” DOT Undersecretary Ferdinand Jumapao said in his speech at the opening.

Usec. Jumapao said that the tourism job fair in Abreeza will not be the last to be held as the DOT and the DOLE  (Department of Labor and Employment) are planning to hold more tourism job fairs.

“Mag sige sige na jud ni siya, mao ni ang plano sa atong Secretary (This will be continue as this is the plan of our Secretary Christina Franco),”  Usec. Jumapao said.

The tourism job fair is organized by the DOT and the DOLE with the support of the City Government of Davao- Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the private sector led Davao Tourism Association (DATA).

As of 4:00 p.m. today (Sept. 23) there were 778 applicants with 128 near-hires and 11 hired-on-the-spot. (PIA/RG Alama)
