Urdaneta City gov’t, SM hold food festival and exhibition

DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) – The City Government of Urdaneta, in partnership with the SM City Urdaneta Central, holds a Food Festival and Exhibition from September 19 to 23 in line with the celebration of Tourism Month this September.

With the theme, “Rethinking Tourism,” the event featured the ‘One Barangay, One Product’ which showcased local cuisines and delicacies of Urdaneta City.

The event, which was participated in by exhibitors from 12 barangays in the city, exhibits products such as: tinapang manok, rabbit meat, hopia, peanut butter, pansit, buko pie, papaya pickles, smoke and marinated bangus, and other delicacies of the city.

Evelyn Delos Trino, city tourism officer of Urdaneta City, the city government aims to promote the city of Urdaneta as a food destination and further boost the city’s tourism industry.

“We are promoting food as part of the food gastronomy tourism, so, nilunsad natin itong food festival. Hopefully soon, ma-identify ang Urdaneta na food destination ng North,” said.

The event also featured Galintino's Tinapang Manok through the Fastest Galintino's Tinapang Manok Eating Contest.

The contest has three categories consisting of six participants for the following categories: Junior (11-16 years old), Senior (17-25 years old), and Expert (26-35 years old).

The champion for the Junior category was Marco Arcedo who received P1,000 cash and 2,000 worth of SM Gift Certificate (GC); Senior category winner, Arjay Tibayan who received P2,000 cash and 2,000 worth of SM GC and; Expert category winner, Rafael Encarnacion who received P3,000 cash and 2,000 worth of SM GC.

The runner-up received 1,000 worth of SM GC while the other participants also received P300 as a consolation prize.

Aside from the one-week food festival and food exhibition, the City Tourism Office will be holding a Zumba Beauty on Friday as part of their celebration of tourism month. (JCR/JNPD/JMA-intern/EMSA, PIA Pangasinan)
