PSC bares priority sports program under PBBM administration

Bringing sports programs closer to smaller communities

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) -- Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairperson Noli Eala highlighted the priority sports program in line with the directive of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. 

 Eala, during the Laging Handa public briefing Friday said the President has ordered to give priority to the welfare of Filipino athletes as they represent the country and the Filipinos worldwide. 

"Ang sabi po ay bigyan ng prayoridad ang mga atleta. Napakalaking po ng ginagampanang role ng ating mga atleta hindi lamang po sa larangan ng palakasan, kung hindi po sa pagbibigay ng pride sa ating bayan (He said to give priority to athletes. They fill in a big role, not just in sports, but also in giving pride to the Philippines)," he said. 

Moreover, Eala lists the top priority programs of the commission in line with the directive of the Chief Executive. 

One of which is the proper dissemination of grass roots sports programs to communities to make it accessible to every Filipinos nationwide. 

"Unang-una na po diyan ay ang pagpapalaganap po ng ating grass roots programs sa bawat sulok ng ating bansa (First is the broadening of our grass roots programs to deliver it in every corner of the country)," Eala said. 

He added that they are currently meeting and consulting with several stakeholders on how to make it easily accessible for the youth to enter sports programs in the country.

The PSC  aims to revive the National Sports Development and Promotion Council, a part of the Department of Education and Department of Interior and Local Government, that will help to strengthen the grass roots sports programs. 

Eala assured that the  welfare of elite Filipino athletes that will compete in future international sports competitions will be taken cared of.

"Pangalawa po, ang aming prayoridad ay ang pagtutok sa ating mga elite athletes, ang mga lalaban po sa international competitions lalong-lalo na sa paparating na South East Asian Games, Asian Games 2023, at syempre po ang ating paghahanda para sa Paris Olympics 2024 (Our second priority is the welfare of elite athletes who are going to participate in international competitions, specifically in South East Asian Games, Asian Games 2023, and in our preparation for the Paris Olympics 2024)," Eala said. 

Included in the preparation of natonal athletes are international trainings, international exposures and competitions before the olympics, and the rehabilitation of several sports infrastructures in the country. 

Eala said he continuesly inspect facilities of the commission to ensurefor its 100 percent ready in preparation for the resumption of athletes' face-to-face trainings and competitions.  (PIA-NCR)
