RNET evaluates nutrition program implementation of Apayao

TUGUEGARAO CITY (PIA) -- The Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) conducted Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) for the province of Apayao on September 21.

Conducted in Tuguegarao City, the nutrition monitoring aims to assess the nutrition program implementation of the LGU. This is to determine the progress of implementation of Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) priorities at the local level and to identify action lines for the local and regional level for improvement of the PPAN implementation.

As the annual monitoring and evaluation mechanism of the implementation of the PPAN, it also aims to evaluate the performance of the local nutrition focal points (LNFPs) namely the Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, District Nutrition Program Coordinator, and Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

During the evaluation, the RNET noted some issues and recommendations, and presented it to the members of the Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC).

"Maganda nga at nagpa-evaluate kayo para may baseline tayo. And gusto rin naming ibigay 'yung mga recommendations based doon kasi annually, regularly, 'yun ang hahanapin and you will be challenged para ma-improve natin 'yung nutritional status natin," RNET Chairperson Candice Salingbay said.

"While we commend you for the initiatives ng mga other sectors, we also encourage the other partners para gawin din nila 'yung role nila," she added.

PNC members also shared their insights and assured to exert more effort to elevate the nutrition status of their province.

MELLPI is an annual monitoring and evaluation mechanism of the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition. The new tool being used which is the MELLPI PRO promotes awareness and observance of existing laws, rules, and guidelines on nutrition; it is progressive because the scoring is based on desired progress of the LGUs in terms of nutrition program; and it is professional because it promoted professional and objective review of evidence.

Areas of evaluation include the presence of vision and mission on nutrition; nutrition laws and policies; governance and organization of local nutrition committees; local nutrition committee management functions; different nutrition interventions and services implemented; and the change in nutritional status in the LGU.

LGUs and LNFPs with the highest rating will receive cash award during the regional awarding ceremony next month. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
