Prov'l Agriculture reports over P3M worth of losses on rice, corn

CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA) - - Based on the initial assessment of the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) here, Super Typhoon Karding caused over P3 million worth of damage to corn and rice crops in the province.

In a report furnished to PIA, the partially damaged rice crops due to strong winds in Diffun, Maddela, and Nagtipunan were valued at P713,009 based on the cost of inputs and farm gate price.

The province records over P3 million worth of losses on rice and corn crops as initially reported by the Provincial Agriculture Office.

Provincial Agriculturist Florence Mangoba said 6,319.91 hectares of irrigated, rainfed and upland rice fields in the three towns were partially damaged.

On the other hand, PAO’s initial report on corn damages stated that from the 20,375.60 total hectares of corn fields in the entire the province, 16,266 ha. of which were reported to be partially damaged.

The losses were valued at P2,337,360 with 368 farmers affected.

According to Mangoba, the assessment of crop damages is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Provincial Veterinary Officer Marcelino Delson, Jr. said that there were no reported damages on livestock as of press time.  (OTB/TCB/PIA Quirino)
