ILOILO CITY (PIA) - - The province of Iloilo will be hosting the World Heart Day celebration on Thursday, September 29, with key officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters coming over to lead the event.

World Heart Day is celebrated globally to raise awareness on cardiovascular diseases, their management, as well as the worldwide toll they take on society.

In partnership with WHO, the Department of Health was tasked to spearhead the nationwide celebration which for the first time will be held in the province of Iloilo in recognition for its successful implementation of the Healthy Heart Project.

WHO has ongoing healthy heart projects in the seven municipalities of the province, namely, Guimbal, Igbaras, Miag-ao, Oton, San Joaquin, Tigbauan and Tubungan.

DOH 6 Information Officer Alma Estember said the celebration will involve various activities such as free health services and COVID 19 primary and booster shots under the PinasLakas vaccination campaign at the Capitol lobby.

A press conference will be held in the afternoon to be followed by the launching of the Western Visayas Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Clubs in health facilities at the National Museum of the Philippines – Western Visayas.

The celebration will be capped by the illumination of the entire provincial capitol’s façade.

The switching on of lights will be led by the officials from WHO, World Heart Federation, Resolve to Save Lives and DOH to signal the call for a global massive action for the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases.  (JBG/Balita Halin sa Kapitolyo/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
