LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) -- The celebration of the Teachers’ Month is made more meaningful with the hiring of additional teachers in the province of Benguet.
The provincial government thru the Provincial School Board headed by Governor Melchor Diclas hired at least 147 teachers who will be assigned to 80 elementary and secondary public schools in the 13 towns of the province for school year 2022-2023.
Diclas said these newly hired teachers will augment the lack of teachers in the national rolls of the Department of Education especially with the resumption of face-to-face classes.
PSB teachers receive P15,000 monthly honorarium with a contract ending in December but is renewable every January as funds are allotted on a calendar year basis.
The Governor bared that this year’s hiring of 147 teachers is the highest that the provincial government has contracted under the PSB since the start of the program.
In 2021, at least 60 teachers were hired and less than 25 in the previous years.
Meanwhile, the Governor issued Executive Order No. 2022-027 declaring September 30, 2022, as a special day for all teachers and non-teaching staff in Benguet in celebration of Teachers’ Day.
In observance of this special day, Diclas suspended classes and work in schools in all levels from kindergarten, elementary schools, secondary schools, colleges and universities including technical-vocational schools and community learning centers in the entire province of Benguet.
Every last Friday of September of each year is declared as official Teachers’ Day in the Province of Benguet through Provincial Ordinance No. 20-266 in recognition of the role of teachers in the education of children, youth, and adults. (JDP/RMC- PIA -CAR)
