DTI breaks ground for P5-M Calamansi Processing Facility

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) initiated the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a P5-M worth Calamansi Processing Facility in Brgy. Pakyas, Victoria on October 12.

This facility will be operated by Pakyas Rural Improvement Club (PARIC) that was acquired through the intervention and endorsement made by DTI to Global Green Growth Institute (GGI) which endorsed the project for funding to the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

DTI Provincial Director Arnel E. Hutalla said the construction of the facility will commence this month. He said the facilities to be constructed include a building and complete equipment for processing calamansi products.

The project is an initiative of DTI in partnership with the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro, KOICA, GGI and Philippine Climate Change Commission. It is hoped that through this venture the agro-food value chains in the province would be enhanced - improving the returns to farmers in the value chain.

Present during the ceremonial activity were DTI Mimaropa Regional Director Joel B. Valera, DTI Oriental Mindoro Provincial Director Hutalla, Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro Provincial Administrator Dr. Hubbert Christopher A. Dolor, Mayor Joselito C. Malabanan of Victoria and other officials from partner agencies and institutions.  (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
