E. Samar LGU awards scholarship grants to college students

SAN JULIAN (PIA) -- Mayor Dennis P. Estaron awarded a total of 60 certificate vouchers to the LGU-San Julian Municipal Scholars during his Accomplishment Reporting and State of Municipality Address at the town's auditorium, October 17.

In an interview, Mayor Estaron said the scholars will get P2,500 each per semester.

“The scholarship grant serves as recognition for their hardwork and determination in their studies despite the challenges during the pandemic,” Mayor Estaron said.

He also emphasized that the scholarship grant is for School Year 2021-2022 only.

“We are currently processing the documents of the applicants for the 1st Semester of the SY 2022-2023,” he further said.

Of the 60 scholars, 33 are for the first semester and 27 for the second semester.

Meanwhile, the encashment of the certificate vouchers was done on October 20-21.

Louie Pinguel and Marian Avila, both 4th year social work students who also happened to be student interns in the LGU, expressed their gratitude to the municipal mayor and those who made the scholarship possible.

“I will use this money to buy books,” Pinguel said.

“Yes, I will buy books, too. And the rest for my allowance and fare. Thank you, LGU-San Julian,” said Avila.

The LGU Municipal Scholarship is pursuant to Municipal Ordinance No. 2, series of 2014, stating that any college student residing in the municipality of San Julian may avail of the scholarship provided that he/she maintains an average of 2.0 from the previous semester; must meet an average of 90% monthly attendance in school; and must be enrolled in the nearest university/college.
