NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) -- Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez has mentioned some of the big infrastructure projects in Leyte during the term of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr., the father of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., in her message during the city’s 75th Charter Day, October 20.
Gomez, the first-termer mayor of Ormoc City, recalled that “almost exactly 40 years ago on October 24, 1982, the father of PBBM inaugurated the Leyte Industrial Development Estate (LIDE).”
LIDE, which is nestled in a 425-hectare special economic zone located in Isabel, Leyte, is the home of two major industries, the Philippine Associated Smelting & Refining Corporation (PASAR) and the Philippine Phosphate Fertilizer Corporation (PhilPos).
Gomez, an Ormocanon and the wife of Representative Richard I. Gomez, said former President Marcos Sr. also initiated the establishment of the Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant located in Kananga, Leyte.
“I am very pleased to say that these economic infrastructure projects from the previous Marcos administration still continue to bear fruits up to this very day,” she said.
She further said that with the present Marcos administration, she has no doubt that the city will be more blessed than ever.
Gomez also thanked PBBM for gracing the momentous event in the history of the City of Beautiful People, the 75th Charter Day of Ormoc City. (MMP/RSV/PIA Biliran)
