54 NegOcc soldiers cited for combat achievement

ILOILO CITY (PIA) -- The Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division (3ID), led by Major General Benedict M. Arevalo, conferred Military Merit Medals (MMM) to 54 officers and enlisted personnel of the 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion (62IB).

The conferment was held at the unit’s headquarters in Barangay Libas, Isabela, Negros Occidental on November 12, 2022.

The awardees were recognized for their professional competence and dedication to duty, displaying outstanding performance to accomplish their assigned tasks and responsibility and contributing to the successful conduct of combat operation in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

It can be recalled that 62IB engaged in the series of encounters in Negros Oriental that resulted in the death of two CPP-NPA members under Central Negros 1, Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor (KR-NCBS) identified as Michael Asuncion alias Raymund and

Marlon Albino alias Max and seizure of war materials in Sitio Mansalukon, Brgy. Calupaan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, where the first encounter transpired, on October 22, 2022. While the second encounter happened in Brgy. Planas, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, on October 29, 2022.

The awarding ceremony was also held to recognize the heroic achievement of the troops as well as their time-honored responsibility of securing the communities they served.

In his message, Arevalo lauded the troops for their selfless service and considered it part of a long tradition of dedication, bravery, and valor among the soldiers.

“Each of you is forever attached to our sworn duty, not just through the flag you carry or the patches you wear, but through your commitment and passion for serving and your dedication to the community in making them safe against the threat and deception of the government’s long time enemy and destroyer of peace- the CPP-NPA,” Arevalo said.
