CagVal LGUs receive disaster equipment, tools from Sen. Tolentino

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) - - Senator Francis Tolentino has awarded equipment and tools for disaster response to 73 identified Local Government Units in Cagayan Valley Region. 

The certificates of acceptance were received by Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba, Isabela Governor Rodolfo Albano III, Quirino Vice Governor Julius Caesar Vaquilar, and Tuguegarao City Mayor Maila Ting-Que. 

Tolentino said the assorted tools and equipment are vital during disasters, especially in rescue operations during earthquakes and vehicular accidents.

He said they are also significant in the conduct of trainings for rescuers. 

"We will be augmenting these tools and equipment next year and probably we can add drones as these are very important during disasters with massive impact on communities," Tolentino said. 

Governor Mamba expressed his gratitude to the senator for the assistance given to the LGUs taking into consideration that Cagayan is a disaster-prone province. 

He also requested the senator to support his program to dredge the Cagayan River to mitigate massive flooding during rainy seasons. 

Governor Albano, on his part, requested the senator to push for the passage of the Department of Water which will integrate all institutions that will manage the water resources of the country and to address  water-induced disasters.

Vice Governor Vaquilar was also thankful to the senator for giving priority to region 2 in the distribution of disaster equipment and tools that are very much needed taking into consideration the experiences of the people of Cagayan Valley every time there are calamities. 

Mayor Ting-Que, who warmly welcomed the visitors and participants to the activity of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), also acknowledged the importance of capacitating the LGUs on disaster response operations. 

Hundreds of LGU officials and representatives participated in the DILG's project "Touch of Life: Disaster Training and Equipment Assistance Program" which is part of the government's disaster preparedness efforts. (OTB/PIA Cagayan)
