LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The province of Ilocos Norte, through the Sangguniang Panlalawigan board members, officially welcomed the presence of the 4th Marine Brigade Philippine Marine Corps after their last deployment in the province back in 1983.
During their courtesy visit at the regular session, BGEN Vicente Mark Anthony Blanco told the local officials that their deployment in northern Luzon will be permanent.
He also assured of their commitment in helping the Philippine Army sustain the peace and order in the province.
Earlier this year, the Ilocos Region achieved a state of stable internal peace and security.
This means that all provinces in the region are cleared and unaffected by communist terrorist groups (CTGs).
“As you may be aware, the province of Ilocos Norte is not really chaotic. It is an assurance, considering that the Ilocos region was declared insurgency-free, which includes Ilocos Norte,” said Blanco.
Aside from peace security, Blanco also mentioned that the troops are capable of assisting the province during times of calamities such as typhoons as part of their humanitarian and disaster response.
“I feel safe already. Thank you for your presence as well,” said Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos during the troop’s courtesy visit.
Moreover, Handy Lao, national president of the Philippine Councilors League, also extended his hospitality to the servicemen and told them he will ask funds from the member-councilors of the league to support the marines. (JCR/AMB/MJTAB/AMPG-Intern)
