DepEd Isabela wins ARAL awards for promoting, upholding child’s rights

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) - - The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Isabela has won five awards during the 3rd ARAL (Advocates of Rights, Accountability, and Leadership) Awards of the DepEd - 2 Legal Unit.

The virtual ARAL awards was held on November 28, 2022 led by DepEd -2 joined by other awardees in other Schools Division Offices in the region.

The five awards won by SDO were Best Anti-Corruption Initiative, Best Legal Unit, Participation Award, Best Child Rights Education Initiative (Secondary) and Best Child Rights Education Initiative (Elementary).

SDO Isabela Legal Officer Atty. Henedino Joseph Eduarte has conceptualized the Child Protection and Anti-Bullying (CPAB) Manual which entirely became a significant milestone for SDO Isabela in championing children’s rights and strengthening child protection.

Provincial Administrator Atty. Noel Manuel Lopez, a child right advocate and SDO Isabela’s partner, lauded Eduarte for leading the conceptualization of the CPAB.

"ARAL Awards reaped by SDO Isabela manifest the unequivocal concern of the advocates for child rights and child protection just what the Provincial Government of Isabela is doing. The Provincial Government of Isabela is working collaboratively with SDO Isabela including the teachers who are all vigilant in protecting the rights of the children," Lopez said.

Lopez cited the PGI's implementation of Project UBING (Ugnayan ng Batang Isabeleño at Nagbabantay na Gobyerno), an inter-agency 24/7 hotline for reporting child abuse cases with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Department of Education (DepEd), National Bureua of Investigation (NBI), and Department of Justice (DOJ).

He said the government agencies are working closely including the Local Child Protection Councils in the province.

SDO Isabela Senior Education Program Specialist and Division Child Protection Focal Person Maria Rosanna Dauigoy said the CPAB Manual is a brainchild of the Legal Unit and is one of the most sterling accomplishments of SDO Isabela under the watch of Attorney Eduarte which was implemented in the division.
